The American Flag is something I love to collect. The most special flag I own is one that was given to me at the 9 11 memorial service at the Cathedral of St. Phillip shortly after that terrible day. Another is a huge cotton 48 star flag a dealer at Lakewood gave me when I looked at it... it needed some TLC and the man surprised me by saying take it and take care of it. I do. This morning I put my collection of smaller flags out for the coming holiday... two on the mailbox... flags on the front door in a flag basket and flags lining the flower beds along the front porch. The house is ready for the holiday.
Mrs. G at Derfwad Manor is hosting an open house today.....she is sharing the heart of her home and I am joining her. Please come in and visit.. I have been away and things aren't too tidy but this is a space I have loved and lived in for more than twenty years. The characters on the sofa are a large part of my family. My son is the first, my "blonde" niece, my nephew is next and my sister. Things and fancy decor aren't the heart of any home... it is the people you share your life with inside the walls.. all the laughs and all the tears. Most of the stuff in this room is something I have found and drug home...the mission radio table by my sister was a great find... and so was the mission side board ...I call my decor Arts and Crafts Junk. The painting over the sideboard is a snowy landscape... long ago at a weekend long swim meet in Auburn, Alabama I found it in a junk store. I love it and it comes out and spends every winter with me. My sister is wearing an apron with 1950's style June Cleever types on it... I found two of them at the thrift store and we wore them in tribute to our Grandmother's who also had on aprons at family get togethers. The table in front of everyone is a mission style chest it is usually loaded down with magazines and books but is doing other duty in this photo. I love these people, this place and all this clutter ... this is my home. I look forward to visiting your place today. Have a good weekend .....THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME.
That is from the 1967 Bobbie Gentry song ODE TO BILLIE JOE... We have had our first 90 degree day today... it is summer in Dixie.. I am thrilled that H. Clinton is going to hang it up and clear the way for OBama. Things are going to get interesting now. I will support OBama all the way to the White House. I have been cleaning the house which really needed it too, too much cat hair everywhere. The camera needs to come out and make some shots of the few finds I have managed to come up with in the last few weeks.... there isn't much to photograph. A Goodwill worker told me today that hunting should improve since it is getting hot here ... people stay inside and go through stuff and their donations go up. When I travel making up my mind what to wear on the airplane is always a problem... if the flight is a long one I want to throw away my outfit and never see it again. We are leaving next week on our anniversary trip so packing is keeping me busy... packing light requires more thought but it is the only way to go. My favorite blogs tell me summer is well under way all over the country; everyone is busy with projects and plans... In the mountains the mountain laurel is starting to bloom... it is beautiful ......... old timers in the Blue Ridge call it Mountain ivy
